While in the pursuit of happiness,
one should stop -
and just be happy . . .

A Very Wet Independence Day. Very.

The 4th of July!!!  And oh, how it rained.  And rained.  And rained.  Joe and I left for Kingsport that morning.  Along the way, we stopped at Cracker Barrel for breakfast.  Along with about a million other folks.  Once we arrived in Kingsport, I had a nice, long visit with Kathy.  Her ability to communicate had really deteriorated since seeing her in early May.  She was happy that I was there, though, and we did manage to communicate some, even though it was quite difficult.  She has so little strength and ability left.  So precious little.  While I visited with her, Joe went to have one of the windshield wipers replaced.  Not a good day to be without good wiper blades!!!  Anyway, not long after he returned, it was time for Kathy & me to say our "goodbye's".  So hard to leave her like that.

After we left, we decided to drive over to Jonesborough while we were "in the neighborhood".  Jonesborough is Tennessee's oldest town, and I had never been there before.  Unfortunately, it was so late in the day, most everything had already closed.  We did get to visit a candy shop and have dinner at a diner on the court square.  It's a very picturesque place.

From there, we drove to Betsy's to visit with her fam (minus Elizabeth & Mikayla - they were at EFY) before we came on home.  Ashlei & Seth were happy to see us -- and the taffy we brought them :)

The next day (Friday), we drove over to The Cookie Jar in Dunlap for lunch.  Still raining, btw.  We came back by way of Pikeville and took a little detour to Cane Creek Falls.  The heavy rainfall we had had caused lots of water to be going over the falls.  It was so very loud.

From there, we went to Mom's to visit with her a while and take her some goodies from The Cookie Jar.  All the rain we had really put a damper on a lot of folks 4th of July celebrating, but we were still able to get in some visits with some of the people we love so much.
