While in the pursuit of happiness,
one should stop -
and just be happy . . .

Making Memories on Memorial Day

Joe and I went to Spencer so that we could get Mom out of the house for a while on a very beautiful Memorial Day.  Thankfully she was up to it.  Well, as up to it as possible these days.  We headed south on 111.  We dropped off some tomato plants at Glenn's.  Checked the Dumplin Mtn. Road property and were thankful that the county had removed a sofa that someone had dropped there.  (What's wrong with some people)?  After that we stopped at the cemetery where Grandma Moffitt is buried.  Then we drove through the quickly developing Mennonite community on the Brockdell Rd. and on down into the beautiful Sequatchie Valley.   From there, we turned north toward Pikeville.  Once there, we stopped and got lunch to take back to Mom's.  The outing wore her out and she even got a little nauseous on those curvy roads back through the mountains.  I got a little worried about it, but she let me know right quick that it was worth it!

I especially love the second picture.  Mom's eyesight is so bad, but Joe is a great tour guide.  He told her where we were all the time and whose old home place we were passing.  She would then share her memories of the people who used to live - and sometimes still does - in those places.
