Nonna Debby's June 2009 Memories

On the 2nd day of June, Joe provided transportation for the missionaries, and Lori & Patrick went to the temple. William was stuck with me. He was asleep when I got to his house. Lori & Patrick left and William awakened about an hour later. He wasn’t upset to see that I was the one who came to get him out of his bed – just confused. We loaded up and went to Grandma M’s for a visit with her. We sat outside until a thunderstorm blew in and shelled peas. After we were forced back inside, I tried feeding him what Lori had prepared for him. He was not interested. Grandma pulled some leftovers out of the fridge and he ate like he thought it was his last meal. I later told Lori not to take it personally. One time when Bryce was a little boy, he asked, “Mom, why is Grandma a better cook than you? Is it because she’s had more experience?” On our way home, we stopped by Little House to drop off and pick up some things. Before we left, I gave him a bath. He was soooo sweet. On the way home, I was afraid he was going to go to sleep. I talked & talked and asked him questions to try to keep him awake. At one point, I suppose out of sheer desperation, he put both hands over his ears. Little stinker.

The next day, Joe and I went to visit Grandma Moffitt and to check on the property by Fall Creek Falls. We had a nice visit with her and Glenn. Jenny & her daughter came before we left, too. We hadn’t been to the FCF property for quite a while. Just as we expected, someone(s) had dumped trash in several different spots. It makes me soooooooo mad. I’d like to make whoever does that have to pick it all up with their teeth!

We were surprised to get up one Monday morning (8th) to learn that Shangri La Lane was being prepared to be paved. It is so nice. We had to keep that in mind for the next several days as we planned our goings and comings.

That same day, Linda Woods (one of our neighbors) called to see if Joe would speak to the ladies of the McMinnville Garden Club the following day. Whoever she had lined up had cancelled on her at the last minute. She was so relieved when Joe told her he was willing to help her out. The next morning we made several arrangements of lilies for the occasion. The meeting was at The Cottage in Morrison. As you would expect, Joe had a great presentation and the ladies seemed to enjoy it very much. Afterward, we were invited to join them upstairs for lunch. We couldn’t turn down the opportunity to eat some of Diane Morton’s famous fare. We were not disappointed.

We went to see Mom on Sunday (14th) for a visit. Agnes & Sherman were there and it was nice to see them, too.

The following Saturday, we went to the temple for the 8:00 AM session. Betsy & Justin were there, too. Their kids stayed with Justin’s parents. Afterward, we went for a late breakfast at Cracker Barrel and nice, leisurely visit. When we parted ways, Joe and I drove back to M’boro to do some shopping in preparation for the upcoming Camp Nonnanee. It was a very nice day.

On Monday, I did some Wal-Mart & Kroger shopping for Mom and then we delivered everything to her. Agnes & Sherman were there again doing yard work. After we left, we went by for another visit with Hazel. From there, we went to Rocky River to stay for a few days. Agnes & Sherman came by on their way home that afternoon for some back-porch-sittin’. It was nice to have them there.

Shangri La has been blooming out all over. The lilies have been beautiful. We had plenty of rain the first of June when they began to bloom and that made their colors very vibrant and the blooms were nice and big. It’s gotten really hot and we haven’t had any rain for over a week, so it’s become very dry. They’re still pretty – just not as pretty as they were earlier. I called one day to see if Kyndal would be willing to be the model for a daylily photo shoot. She said, “Yes!” When I went to pick her up, Bryce told me that she had been practicing her smile! That became quite apparent as I started making her picture. She loves the camera and the cameral loves her. She was very fascinated with the master bath that day. She asked once if she could get in the tub. I told her that sometime when she's here she could take a bath. She sweetly looked at me and said, "I'm heeeeeeer nooooooow!" What a doll! Several days later I took some pictures of William with the Orange Vols lilies and his tractor. He hated the lily part, but loved the tractor part.
