As of yesterday, Joe now has five working hives! This swarm wasn't as easy to capture as the second one - but easier than the first one that refused to be captured! Our timing was great this time around, though, because we happened to be around when this swarm actually left it's original hive. The air was FULL of honey bees and after a few minutes, they began to swirl around each other until they got closer and closer. At that point, the Queen chose this tree and all the other bees began to pile on top of her to protect her until a permanent home could be found. Joe just happened to have the perfect accommodations for them but they were reluctant to take him up on his hospitality for a while. Eventually (and after a few stings) they finally settled into their new home. Surely, surely, surely, we will have some VERY local honey before too long!
