one should stop -

Winter Blast

The week of February 15th began a series of winter blasts - one right after the other - that lasted for three weeks.  The first round produced freezing rain for our area which resulted in power outages and downed limbs and trees.  It was particularly devastating in the Monterey area.  Our electricity blinked off and on over and over again, but never was off for more than a few minutes at a time (unless we were sleeping and didn't know it).  I did some extra cooking before the storm hit, just in case.  We also vacuumed out the dust in the fireplace and got the propane logs burning to make sure we would have heat.  We were some of the lucky ones, though, who just ended up with a lot of limbs and debris down from the pine trees that line the road.

The second round brought snow.  We received about three inches, which was the most we had had in a while.  It began on the night of February 25th and was beautiful as it fell.  The next morning we awoke to a winter wonderland.  We got out early to walk around the neighborhood and get some pics.  Good thing!  It melted pretty fast.  I made some Jack Wax Taffy for the first time when we got back to the house.  Fun to make and fun to eat!
